Senior Moments

I had a senior moment the other day. Not forgetting why I'd gone into a room, or where I'd put my car keys or anything as trivial as that, oh no. This one has caused a gunshot of laughter whenever I've told the tale. Hoping it will also bring a smile to your face (and may I also hope, a little sympathy?), I relate it here:

Sitting down to write out a birthday card for my ex sister-in-law, I realised I would need my glasses. I got up, found glasses, put them on and then continued writing the card, addressing the envelope and sealing it. Not until it was all done did I realise...I'd put my hat on instead of my glasses.

I've had just one other momentous moment in my life, but I my kids were small then and I blame early motherhood rather than age:

A light bulb had blown on the landing upstairs. I went all the way downstairs, collected a new light bulb and the stepladders and went all the way back up. I was standing under the light preparing to go up and it was that moment I realised I'd collected the ironing board instead of the ladder.

Please, please comfort me ladies by telling me I'm not alone in these 'brain on holiday' moments. If you've experienced anything similar, I would love to hear them.

Oh, by the way, I'm hoping to have a little giveaway on 1st December, so please come back then for a visit.

And HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you all in the USA!

blessings,

Andi

  1. You surely aren't alone Andi! I've done those kinds of things many times. I've tried to get out of the car with my seatbelt on. Put the butter in the cabinet, the salt in the fridge. The other day I soaked some beans all day, came home from work and made bean soup with chicken stock and Italian sweet chicken sausage, cooked it for about four hours and boy did it taste good. Left it cooling on the stove....and went to bed forgetting to put it in the fridge. Of course the next morning since it had chicken in it I was afraid we'd all get poisoned and had to throw the whole d&*n pot out. Nope, you aren't alone!

  9. My granddaughters asked me to help them with something once and I said " As soon as I find my glasses" and got up to go find them when my oldest granddaughter said " Mimi they're on your face" haha Yep we all have those moments.

  12. This is so funny! I love the ironing board story = he! he!
I'm forever having those special moments - mostly though, I just totally forget words - such as the name of an object...
Thank you for your lovely comment over at mine, I hope you have a good week :-)

  13. I can empathise. Recently, I put my purse in one of the freezer compartments and couldn't leave the house until I found it which luckily didn't take too long! I'm always forgetting where I put things and I have to ask my daughter to watch what I'm doing so that at least someone with a memory might remember where thing are in this house!

Love your blog, btw. I'm your newest follower.

  15. You are definitely not alone, I have many of these moments. My most famous one is that I apparently shoved all of the pots and pans into one drawer in the kitchen. I have no recollection of doing this but my daughter insists that it was me, but then who else could it have been. I will never live it down.......thanks for visiting my blog.
    happy days,
    Trish

  21. Loved the ironing board ladder... I've done these sorts of things also, now I'm making a mental list. I find myself in a room and asking myself, 'what did I come in here after?' Actually, I kind of have fun with all of it.
