Back From Hols

We've just returned from a two week break in Cornwall and Somerset (to a house of chaos - but that's another story). One of our day's out included a trip to Dunster Castle. On the way, I spotted a salvage yard, and miracle upon miracle, M agreed to stop.

As I know a lot of us here enjoy a good salvage yard, I thought I'd share some pics (with minimum commentary):

This fearsome beast greeted us at the entrance:

Old suitcases are popular at the moment:

A butcher's block:

complete with broken label:

Beautiful old stoves to keep you warm...

And a water pump for your bathing:

Milk churns are always fun (and a family joke)

A beautiful old lantern frame

My Nan had one of these in her porch:

but she didn't have a kangaroo

For some unknown reason I really wanted this signpost, but with all our luggage it wouldn't have got in the car:

giant clock hands

and just for fun...

Did I buy? Yes. I bought a large black cast iron saucepan to use in the garden. I forgot to take a pic. Maybe when I've planted it up.

A very enjoyable trip which doesn't happen often enough for me.

Blessings,

Andi xx

  1. Wow Andi! Looks like a great place to visit. I'd love the first fearsome beast, and I LOVE the butchers block - it'd fill my small kitchen.
Shame you couldn't manage to get the sign home though.

Cornwall....one day I shall get there. My ancestry is from around the St Ives area and it is on my 'bucket list'. And I have distant's in Somerset, too!

Lovely post with lovely treasures to see.

  8. Hi Andi!
Wowser that was one good salvage yard!! I'm just browsing along looking at all the pix...That's nice...Very cool art deco stove, really quite beautiful...And then you came to that ornate lantern and my heart skipped a beat! That would've come home with me for sure... as long as I didn't have to sell my first born?...Well maybe even then! Lol! And the sign holder too!
Thanks for taking a gander at my saint statue. He does look a little like Joan of Arc (as a hobbit!) Lol! But he has a little something extra downstairs if you know what I mean *winks* Vanna

  12. Good morning, Andi! Sounds like a fun trip! I love when my husband will stop at those once in a while, too!

I LOVED that joke you shared on my blog about the monks--so funny! Had my whole family laughing!

  13. Oooh, I would have gone crazy there!
Maybe you should have rented a U-Haul. That's what you do when you have too much stuff to haul here in the USA.
I send things UPS if I absolutely have to have it. The butcher block would have been worse the shipping for me!!!!!! Loved it.

  14. Hi thanks for your visit, George has been going to the groomers just so happens Dave who grooms him owns George's dad so is good with Terriers, now we have Tess I must have ago myself! Its not easy and George does play me up on the grooming table, if its Elsie first grooming I would have a phone around first, make sure they know how to handle terriers, take a photo of how you would like her to look, George is hand striped and thats not cheep to have done, but you can use clippers. If you join WELTAF the link is on this weeks blog post, some members might know of a good groomer near to where you live. You don't have to put up a question on the forum just type in grooming in the search box under posts it is a good way of finding allsorts of things about the breed

Hope that helps, not sure if all welshies like steps, Tess managed some today.
Hope Elsie is getting on OK.
    Have a good week
    George,Tess and Jan x

  16. What lovely things you saw on the way! That blue stove is my favourite.
Having a break away is so important for the soul. I long to go away soon to recharge my batteries, Cornwall would be my choice.
